The world of body art is changing. Once considered the only for men, there is now considerable adoption of tattoos for girls. This article explores this phenomenon and how girls can find galleries that are tailored to them.
Tattoos are no longer reserved for men like sailors, bikers, soldiers, etc. In fact, there are now as many women buying tattoos as men and thousands of women are looking for good tattoos for girls online every day. Tattoos for girls are becoming increasingly familiar as tattooing has become more socially acceptable, largely due to the many celebrities who publicly display their tattoos.
What are women looking for today? I took some time out to answer this question. Here’s what I found…
Designs
The internet is an excellent source of tattoo designs and there is a growing trend towards sites that cater for tattoos for girls. As girls are in generally smaller than men, they tend to look for designs that are smaller in size. The most popular images for girls include such things as wings, hearts, stars, flowers, animals and meaningful text.
Why do girls choose to buy tattoos?
This is a really interesting question. My research has discovered that there are a few primary reasons.
One of the most common reasons is to mark an occasion or a special event. Couples will sometimes buy matching themes to mark a special event such as engagement, marriage or the birth of a child. Sometimes these images are placed on parts of the body that are not visible in every-day life. These are personal moments that are marked for private reasons and are often not shared.
Girls also buy tattoos to express their individuality. Typically this is to convey a message about who they are and what they believe in. An extension of this theme is choosing tattoos that represent an association with a group. Tribal tattoos amongst women in the South Pacific are a good example of this. Tattoos that represent organisations that girls associate with are relatively new but are growing. Associating with Greenpeace to promote an affinity with animals might be an example of this.
A strong theme that I found is that girls want tattoos that have meaning for them. A fast growing trend to reflect this is the selection of short phrases that are tattooed on to the wrist. As one girl told me, my wrist tattoo is a daily reminder to me to live my life according to a principle that I hold more important than any other. This (placing textual tattoos on wrists)is a very interesting development and one I expect we will see significant growth in over coming months and years.
